How To Get More Matches On Tinder In 2026

How to get more Tinder matches?

In this guide, I’m going to show you how to get more matches on Tinder and other dating apps like Hinge and Bumble. First, though, it is important to understand how Tinder and all the other apps work. How many matches you get is primarily determined by two factors:

1) How often you use the app – I’ve done experiments on this where I took the same profile and spent a week swiping regularly and another week barely touching it. The one where I swiped got 3x more matches (link to full experiment results here). You don’t have to go overboard, though. Just a few minutes of swiping a day is good

2) How many girls swipe left or right on your profile – This is by far the biggest factor. If you can’t get girls to swipe right on you, then nothing else will matter

So how do you get girls to swipe right on you?

The answer is simple… get better photos.  A lot of guys think they have good photos, yet struggle to get matches. At the end of the day, the dating marketplace determines the strength of your profile. In general, if you are not getting at the very least 5-10 matches a day, then your photos are not that good.

What makes a good Tinder profile photo?

1) You look your best – Leverage flattering light, smart angles, and masculine expressions. Aim to appear just a notch above your everyday look—if you’re a solid 6 in person, shoot for a 6.5 – 7 in photos. Most men do the reverse and end up looking like a 4.

2) The photo looks natural. – Overly posed shots feel stiff and unappealing. You want the “I was busy doing something cool, and my friend casually snapped this” vibe. Even with a pro photographer, you can capture that spontaneity with the right approach

3) The image quality is decent – you don’t need he high picture quality, but blurry or pixelated pics will cost you. Any recent smartphone—or a DSLR if you have one—delivers plenty of resolution. You don’t gain points by making your quality higher than that, but you do lose points if your quality sucks

Pro tip: Skip the heavy background blur. It screams “professional shoot” and can come off as try-hard.

Example of a guy who improved his photos and got more matches

Yes, this is the same exact guy, but his photos are a night and day difference. He went from getting no matches to more matches than he knew what to do with. To see more examples, check out our full guide on getting the best tinder profile pics

So to recap, you want photos in which you look your best and the photo looks natural. A good pro photographer should be able to help you with all this (but be careful who you choose, since most of them suck)

Why am I still not getting matches on Tinder?

I have looked at hundreds of men’s profiles who were struggling on dating apps, and a few patterns emerged:

1) Poor presentation– Most men don’t come close to showing their best selves online. You don’t need a full makeover, just a sharp haircut, tidy facial hair, and clothes that fit well. Master these basics, and you’ll already be ahead of most guys on dating apps.

Two examples below. The man with noticeably hairy arms should trim them before posing in a tank top, while the one swimming in oversized clothes would look far sharper in pieces tailored to his build. Both are significantly lacking in presentation, and could fix that in 30 minutes

2) Unflattering facial expressions – It’s a common issue: eyes half-closed, mouth hanging open, awkward smile, or a harsh scowl in an otherwise playful shot (picture someone playing with a dog yet looking annoyed). Stick to three winning looks: confident neutral, easy grin, or genuine smile. Below are some examples of the kind of expressions you want to avoid

3) Underselling your looks – If you’re a solid 6 in person, your photos should elevate you to a 7 or 7.5, not drag you down to a 3 or 4. Poor lighting, awkward angles, and bad cropping are usually to blame. Example: one photo hides half the guy’s face behind the camera while he squints into the sun; another is shot from a bizarre low angle that flatters no one.

4) Missing the sex-appeal factor – Your photos should make her think, “That’s a real man,” yet too many profiles broadcast a “boyish” energy instead. In the examples below, the first man comes off like a well-meaning teenager, while the second appears unmotivated and sloppy.

Conclusion

If you follow my advice on what makes a good photo and avoid the common mistakes mentioned, your matches should definitely increase. However, a lot of guys struggle with evaluating photos of themselves and believe they’ve done everything right (when they haven’t).
